Karanja Narasimha Swamy

The Legend of Enlightenment
Karanja Narasimha Swamy is uniquely associated with the Karanja tree, under which the Lord blessed Gobila Maharshi with supreme knowledge. It is also the sacred location where Hanuman performed penance. To appease Hanuman's devotion to Lord Rama, the Lord appeared in this rare form, holding a bow.
Description of the Divya Moorthi
The form of Sri Karanja Narasimha Swamy is a magnificent depiction as described in the Dhyana Sloka:
- The Lord is seated gracefully in the Yogasana posture.
- He is depicted with Four Divine Hands.
- In His right hand, He holds the Sudarshana Chakra.
- In His left hand, He carries the Sarangam (Sacred Bow), a rare sight in Narasimha iconography.
- Unique to this shrine, the Lord features a Third Eye on His forehead, symbolizing His omniscience.
The Melodies of Annamacharya
The great saint-poet Annamacharya was deeply moved by the form of Karanja Narasimha. He offered his devotional prayers through the famous Sankeerthana:
"Phalanetranala Prabala vidyulatha keli vihara Lakshmi Narasimha"This verse highlights a unique feature of the Lord here—He possesses a Third Eye (Phalanetra) on His forehead, similar to Lord Shiva.
