Malola Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy

The Legend of Vedadri Hills
Situated on the serene plateaus of Vedadri Hill, the Malola Narasimha Swamy temple represents the "Shantha" or peaceful form of the Lord. According to sacred legends, Goddess Maha Lakshmi was once aggrieved when the Lord married Chenchu Lakshmi. To restore celestial harmony and please His eternal consort, Lord Narasimha manifested here in a loving and graceful form.
The name "Malola" is derived from "Ma" (meaning Goddess Lakshmi) and "Lola" (meaning beloved), signifying the Lord as the beloved of Lakshmi.
The Aradhya Daiva of Ahobila Matha
Sri Malola Narasimha is the primary deity (Aradhya Daiva) of the illustrious Sri Ahobila Matha. The spiritual journey of the Matha began when the Lord blessed the First Jeer, Sri Adivan Satagopa Yatheendra Mahadesikan, with Sanyasa.
In a miraculous event, the Lord appeared as an Archa Moorthi directly in the hands of the first Jeer. He was commanded to take this divine form to every village, instilling the essence of Sri Vaishnavism in the hearts of the people. This established the unique tradition of a "Math on Wheels," where the deity travels to the devotees.
Description of the Divine Form
The Moorthi of Malola Narasimha is a masterpiece of divine serenity:
- The Lord is a Shantha Moorthy, radiating peace and boundless compassion.
- Goddess Maha Lakshmi is gracefully seated on the left lap of the Lord.
- The deity features Four Hands: the upper two hold the sacred Shankha and Chakra.
- The lower two hands are in the Abhaya and Varada Hastha postures, offering protection and granting boons to the faithful.
A Heritage of Devotion
For over 600 years, the successive Jeeyars of Ahobila Matha have carried forward the mission of the first Jeer with unflagging dedication. In recent times, the 40th Jeeyar played a pivotal role in restoring the glory of this shrine and facilitating pilgrim movement across the rivulets of the Nallamala range.
